About Us: History
Great companies don’t happen overnight. In the case of Davis Pipe & Supply, this trailblazing company had its beginnings during the early 1970s.
The company’s name comes from Texas irrigation pioneer Larry Davis, who pioneered the growth of the turf irrigation market in the Lone Star State. On family visits to Oklahoma to see his brother-in-law and sister – Jack and Jan Grigg – Larry pointed out the under-served irrigation market in the state and encouraged Jack to open a store in Oklahoma City.
Prior to entering into the irrigation industry, Jack and Jan had distinguished careers in public education, with Jack rising to the position of auditor with the Oklahoma Department of Education. In 1984, Jack entered into a partnership with Larry’s son Mark Davis and opened Davis Pipe & Supply in Edmond. The Edmond store had very humble beginning - with Jack and one other employee running the store. They stocked the shelves, pulled the orders, answered the phones and swept the floors.
In 1991, Jack Grigg purchased Mark Davis’ share of the Oklahoma business and exciting growth really began. Jan Grigg joined him full time in the business, retiring from teaching in the Putnam City Schools.
With a philosophy of fair prices, integrity and hiring great employees, the company quickly won the support of a wide customer base. Davis became Hunter’s first distributor in the state of Oklahoma and Jack developed strong relationships with other suppliers – such as Rain Bird, Toro, Weathermatic, Nightscaping and ADS. So outstanding was the company’s growth that the company was honored as the 1992 distributor of the year for both Hunter Industries and Richdel (now Irritrol). To better serve the growing market in the south part of the metro area, Jack opened a branch in Norman during 1993.
Always a family company, Jack and Jan’s children – Cory and Brook – have played an integral role in the company since their college days. Brook worked at the Edmond store while at the University of Central Oklahoma – and later Norman when that branch opened. Cory began as a delivery driver while a student at the University of Oklahoma. Today, both Brook and Cory play key roles in the daily operation of the company.
By 2000, the Edmond store was busting at the seams. Still operating from the same small warehouse, it was becoming increasingly difficult to manage the wide variety of products and possibilities available to Davis customers. The family also knew that contractors were diversifying their businesses, adding landscape lighting, drainage, water gardening, outdoor structures and holiday decorating to their offerings.
In December 2008, Davis Pipe & Supply moved into a state-of-the-art facility, increasing warehouse space by five times and adding a welcoming new showroom. Since that time, the dedicated team has continued to add new offerings – making the company the premier source for landscape, irrigation, pool/spa and outdoor living products in Oklahoma. A new training center allows the company to host seminars from experts around the country to educate local professionals on the latest innovations.
Throughout the company’s history, the customer’s needs have driven expansion, growth and new services. The customer is always number one at Davis Pipe and Supply.
